One opening. Different ways to use it.

An exterior motorized screen lowers across an opening when you want protection and retracts when you want the space open again. It can help a covered patio or porch feel more usable without permanently closing it in. Garage and commercial applications are also available, subject to a dealer's site assessment.

The fabric matters as much as the motor. Solar mesh prioritizes shade and glare control; insect mesh is selected for insect protection; privacy fabric changes how visible the space is from outside. These functions overlap, but not every fabric delivers the same airflow, outward visibility, or privacy. Your dealer can show samples and help you decide which tradeoff matters most.

Compare your options

  • Solar screens

Choose solar mesh for openings that receive uncomfortable direct sun or glare. Fabric openness and color affect the amount of light, the view, and the level of shade.

  • Insect screens

Insect protection depends on the mesh and how the system meets the edges of the opening. Discuss side guides, the bottom seal, and any gaps with your installer.

  • Privacy screens

A less-open fabric can reduce visibility into an outdoor space. Privacy changes with lighting, especially at night, so request samples before selecting a fabric.

Plan before the consultation

  1. Measure the opening—not just its width

Send approximate width and height, photos of the opening, and details about the surrounding structure. The dealer will verify dimensions, mounting surfaces, and clearance before a system is ordered.

  2. Plan power and controls

Discuss motor power, wiring access, remote or wall-switch placement, and any desired smart-home controls. Compatibility depends on the motor and control system selected.

  3. Compare weather limits and care

Exterior screens are not storm shutters or waterproof walls. Ask about the system's operating limits, when it must be retracted, how to clean the fabric, and which warranty terms apply.

Questions about motorized outdoor screens

How are motorized screens different from open roller shades?

Motorized screen systems may use side guides to manage the fabric across an opening, with sealing details selected for the application. An open roller shade has a track-free design and is primarily used for shading. Ask your dealer which design fits your goals for shade, insects, privacy, and airflow.

Can the same screen provide shade, insect protection, and privacy?

Some fabrics serve more than one purpose, but they have different tradeoffs. Openness, weave, color, lighting, and installation details affect the result. Tell your dealer your first priority and compare samples rather than assuming every screen performs the same way.

How much does a custom motorized screen cost?

The quote depends on the opening size, fabric, motor and controls, mounting requirements, electrical work, and installation conditions. A local dealer can assess the space and provide a tailored project quote.

Are manual screens or French-door screens available?

No. OutdoorShadePal's offering is premium exterior motorized screens and exterior open roller shades. Manual screens and French-door screens are not part of the offering.
